A hail claim on your car is usually simple: it falls under the comprehensive part of your auto policy, it isn’t an at-fault accident, and you choose who fixes the car. Here’s how it works in Oklahoma, from a shop that has handled hail claims for over 20 years.

1. Check the damage, and your coverage

Hail dents show best at an angle, in shade or under fluorescent light. Check the roof, hood, trunk and the tops of the doors. Then look for comprehensive coverage on your policy. That’s what pays for hail. Liability-only policies don’t cover it.

Not sure? Book a free hail inspection and we’ll help you read your policy.

2. File the claim

Call your insurer or file online with the storm date. You’ll get a claim number. Policies set deadlines for reporting a loss, so don’t wait months, and don’t wait for the next storm. Oklahoma often gets hit more than once a season, and two storms on one car make the claim harder.

3. Choose your repair shop

Your insurer may suggest a network shop. You don’t have to use it. Oklahoma law lets you choose where your car is repaired.

4. The estimate and inspection

An adjuster or drive-in claims center writes an estimate. Quick estimates often miss dents, especially on aluminum panels and roof rails. A hail shop documents every dent panel by panel and sends the insurer a supplement for anything missed. That’s normal, and it’s how the repair gets paid in full.

5. Your deductible

Your comprehensive deductible is what you owe before insurance pays. Our deductible assistance program means qualifying claims are repaired with $0 out of pocket. Ask us if yours qualifies.

6. A car to drive while yours is fixed

Rental reimbursement is an add-on many policies don’t include. You don’t need it with us: Hail Restore provides a free rental for the whole repair and picks up and delivers across the OKC metro.

7. The repair

Most hail damage is fixed with paintless dent repair (PDR): dents are pushed out from behind the panel with no sanding, filler or repaint, so your factory paint stays intact. Cracked or sharply creased panels may need conventional body work.

8. Payment

Insurers pay the shop directly or send you a check. If you have a loan or lease, the check may be made out to you and your lender. We’ll walk you through it so you don’t have to front any money.

What if my car is totaled?

Big hail on an older or high-mileage car can push the repair cost close to the car’s value, and the insurer may declare a total loss. That affects whether you keep the car and what kind of title it ends up with. Call us before the adjuster’s visit and we’ll tell you honestly what we see.
